This might not have been a fair contest. I started this while was on a prolonged leave from work. I had no schedule. I would just wake up and stare at my broken arm and think “Get me some protein. Time to get swoll”. And that includes my slow walk around the neighborhood. I loved the mornings walking with my husband. Moderate activity was pretty easy in our neighborhood.
The problems started half a month in. I went on a vacation with my parents. I will not call them elderly, but they are in their 70s. So adjusting the walking to when they would get up and what was planned for the day became the priority. Getting a protein breakfast was very easy. meat is very popular in Eastern European countries. It is more of a fiber issue. The moderate walking pace became a problem.
Walking the cities in the earlier mornings when we were able or walking the deck in the morning is very calming. There are not many things as beautiful as a sunrise above an ancient city that is just waking.
Conclusion
30/30/30 Goals
- Is it doable?
- I had a lot of time on my hands so for me it absolutely was. I am not sure I would be as thrilled about doing it if I was going to work at 6:30 am. But people walk their dogs before they go to work so yeah sure. Maybe that mind set might take some of the joy out of it.
- Did I like it?
- I did. I liked getting outside. Not completely jumping into a hard workout was also a lot more pleasant on my bones. Because I am old. And getting conversations with my husband was a big plus. I started leaving my phone at home on these walks. It was a nice reminder to disconnect.
- Did I lose weight?
- No. I am not sure walking at a moderate rate will change anyone’s weight in thirty days. That seems a little far-reaching. Mayne this is like a compound interest activity. I like that it did seem to motivate me more throughout the day.
- Will I continue to do it?
- Yeah sure. It was very nice. It was hard or unpleasant. I probably had more conversations with my neighbors than I have ever had before. And I liked eating protein first thing. what a wonderful excuse to eat the best food of al time- the breakfast burrito.
Now all of these results are definitely for me and me alone. While I liked it and would continue everyone needs to do what is in their comfort zones and work within their own health and fitness needs.
